Visit Aberdeen Island in Hong Kong
Aberdeen Island in Hong Kong is a thriving centre in summer with sailing lessons, seafood markets, scuba diving and harbour tours all summer, as well as two floating restaurants. The area is famous for being used in martial arts films such as Bruce Lee’s Enter The Dragon and Jean Claude Van Dam’s Double Impact.
The island is not only frequented by tourists but also Hong Kong locals for its floating village and seafood restaurants located in the Aberdeen Harbour. The Tanka people, who used to live on boats in the Aberdeen Harbour, are associated with the fishing industry, and there are still several dozens of them living on boats in the harbour.
Ocean Park Hong Kong
Aberdeen attracts a lot of tourists as it’s close to Ocean Park, also situated in the Southern District. It is one of the most popular themes park in Hong Kong apart from Disneyland, of course!
A Floating Palace
Aberdeen Jumbo Floating Restaurant, located in the Bay, is a popular tourist spot designed to resemble the floating palace of imperial China and has attracted over 30 million visitors since opening in 1976.
Dragon boat race in Aberdeen Harbour
Aberdeen Harbour becomes the venue of the dragon boat race in the Southern District during the Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Tuen Ng Festival. Similar races are held on Duanwu Festival Day in harbours or rivers of other districts.
Located in Aberdeen Centre, Aberdeen Square is a venue of choice for local fairs, promotion events and charity events. It is sometimes used by the Southern District Council to hold shows and evening concerts during festivals such as the Chinese New Year and Christmas.
If you are planning to visit Aberdeen, it’s a good idea to take Hong Kong Dollars with you. The HK is thirteenth most traded currency in the world. Apart from its use in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong dollar is used in the near Macau Special Administrative Region, where the Hong Kong dollar circulates alongside the Macau Pataca. If you wish to purchase HK dollars before you leave, speak to WeXchange, and we can help you.
