Norway is known world-wide for being one of the most beautiful and expensive countries in the world. I’m happy to say that the first one is true and sadly so is the second one. However, the beauty far outweighs the cost as Norway is truly a spectacular country.

The capital of Oslo is a metropolitan city with beautiful architecture mixed with the beautiful old colonial houses of old Oslo. There is a lot to see in Oslo and you can easily purchase an Oslo pass which will give you access to the main tourist attractions as well as transport. Oslo is also home to the only Nobel Prize to be awarded outside Sweden, The Nobel Peace Prize!

Cross the west of the country and you’ll find what Norway is most famed for; incredible views and stunning fjords. Hiking in Norway’s biggest national park ‘Jotunheimen’ will be exhilarating and an experience you will never forget with unrivalled views on top of that.

On the far coast you will find the town of Aalesund which was once named the most beautiful in Europe and you can truly see why. A town built with rivers running through like Venice and beautiful old style architecture. You can see why people never want to leave.

Slightly further Southwest near the coast, you’ll arrive at the famous town of Bergen. Famous for its colourful wooden houses on the old wharf, it also has a lot of history as a colony. Spend a day walking around the city with a Bergen card (same as an Oslo card) and spend another day hiking up Ulriken and across to Floyen, the 2 highest hills with amazing views.

Head north to Tromso the city that is most famed for being in the Arctic Circle and a great place to see the Northern Lights!

Finally, make your way down to Stavanger which you can use as a base to travel to three famous natural points in Norway: Pulpit rock, Kjerig rock and Trolltunga.

Travel Advice

To get around the west of Norway the best way is to rent a car. Although there are trains between each place they all have to go all the way back to Oslo before then going back out due to all the fjords.
