Poland is probably most well-known for its 2 main cities of Warsaw and Krakow.

Warsaw is a small capital and is the legislative centre of Poland. However, if you are here then a trip to the top of the Palace of Science and Culture gets you a wonderful view of the city. The real highlight of Warsaw though, is the ‘Old Town’. The old town of Warsaw was actually largely raised to the ground during Nazi occupation and what you see standing now has been completely re-built. It was, however, re-built using the original architectural elements and what stands now is a beautiful oasis in a bustling city. Stop for lunch in the centre and watch the world go by!

Krakow is the main cultural centre of Poland and is a beautiful city filled with bars and history. Spend the day wandering around the old town or take a trip down into the salt mines to see what got Krakow its wealth. If you’re feeling solemn then jump on a bus and make your way to the famously haunting Auschwitz, just an hour away. It is a real eye opener to the atrocities of the holocaust and you get an idea of the horrendous tortures they went though.

Secret Tip

If you want to visit Auschwitz but aren’t bothered about paying for a guide you can go for free! Go to Birkenau (Auschwitz II was where most prisoners were kept), look around and then head back to the camp at about 3pm for free entry!
